What is a silicone breast pump?

A silicone breast pump is a special type of manual breast pump made from silicone in a one-piece design. Silicone Pumps differ from traditional manual breast pumps as they don't require a continuous manual pumping action to extract breastmilk. Silicone Pumps when pressed into the breast provide a gentle suction to collect breastmilk in a more effortless manner. They are essentially a hands free milk catcher that helps breastfeeding mums collect and store their liquid gold while breastfeeding their baby on the opposite breast.

We are proud to stock the original Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump and Mumasil Silicone Breastmilk Saver here at Milkbar.

Silicone Breast Pumps are a great option if you are primarily breastfeeding and wanting a simple and easy way to create a stash of breastmilk, to reduce engorgement or looking to increase supply gently.

If you have a slow let-down reflex or limited milk supply, or need to express full feeds multiple times per day then you may find a a silicone pump beneficial but it may not tick all the boxes for a breast pump as you may need more stimulation to produce a let down to express a larger volume of breastmilk. In this case we recommend also looking at our range of electric breast pumps.
