What are lactation cookies?
Lactation cookies are made with healthy ingredients like brewer's yeast, rolled oats, flaxseed meal and fenugreek which are packed with vitamins, protein and minerals. These ingredients are known as galactagogues foods which help increase levels of the prolactin hormone. This is the hormone responsible for milk production.
How long do lactation cookies take to work?
1-2 days on average.
It depends on the individual, but usually, galactagogues like brewers yeast take between 24 and 72 hours to start working.
How many lactation cookies should I eat a day?
2 a day
We recommend that you start with up to 2 servings of the cookies per day. Try increasing or decreasing this amount based on your breast milk production and how you and your baby feel.
When can you start lactation cookies?
It's totally up to you, but most sources suggest taking lactation cooking 2 weeks before your baby comes. Since all ingredients are 100% natural, it’s safe to have while you're pregnant. You can stop taking them anytime if you are experiencing an oversupply of milk.
Can lactation cookies cause constipation or upset tummies in babies?
Some ingredients in the cookies such as brewer’s yeast and fenugreek are found to have side effects such as constipation or diarrhoea. If you suspect you or your baby are having a reaction or food intolerance, it’s always best to stop consuming these products and consult your paediatrician or general practitioner on how to proceed.
