How to Assemble Your Breast Pump

I opened the box and pulled out all the little ‘bits’. There were long things, round things, rubbery things and a suspicious-looking suction valve I think was meant to go on my boobs…maybe. My first introduction to a breast pump was a little bit overwhelming and in my sleep-deprived state (and we’re going to assume every new mum is sleep-deprived!) is looked really really complicated.

You want me to do what with that? Really? It goes there? Really? Huh.

Fortunately once I’d read through all the instructions and assembled the pump for the first time it all went pretty well and I’ve never looked back. I’m a pumping-pro these days and love my Unimom Forte# Double Electric Hospital Grade Breast Pump.

But I remember those early days and how intimidating it was to learn to pump while juggling motherhood, household responsibilities, and breastfeeding; and now expressing too. So we’ve collected comprehensive instructions and videos for our favourite Ameda and Unimom breast pumps to help you get started.

So whether you are exclusively expressing, expressing and breastfeeding or only occasionally expressing we have brought together all the information you’ll need to get your breast pump assembled and your very own milk production line started!

Before You Start to Assemble Your Breast Pump:

  • Your breast pump should be washed in warm soapy water prior to use.
  • Make sure you have thoroughly washed your hands with soap and water before handling the breast pump.
  • Make sure you have a flat, clean and dry surface to assemble your breast pump.
